Ameranouche

A rescheduling of the December performance postponed by inclement weather. This nationally acclaimed gypsy jazz ensemble plays acoustic hot jazz, both original compositions and unique arrangements by American and gypsy songwriters. The group is based in New England and has performed at various festivals, venues and radio stations including the Djangofest Northwest in Washington, the Vermont Arts Exchange Concert Series, the Sun Music Hall in Virginia and Boston's Titus Sparrow Park Concert Series.

dana holbyNo Small Feat - A Tribute to Dana Holby

After 27 years of teaching dance at Marlboro College, Dana Holby is retiring. Join former students and colleagues who will honor her with an evening of performance ranging from improvisation to film and everything in between. Performances will include works by Kyla Ernst-Alper, Zoe Maas Fief, Aurora Corsano, Sunny Hitt, Elizabeth Hallett, Patricia Wilson, and Edmund Brelsford. Reservations recommended. raphael trioMusic for a Sunday Afternoon - The Raphael Trio

In November of 1975, the Raphael Trio made "a most auspicious debut" (The New York Times) at Carnegie Hall as winners of the Concert Artists Guild Award. They have since been presented regularly in the leading concert halls of the United States and Europe. In celebration of their 25th anniversary, they performed the complete Beethoven trios in cycles at the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC, at Marlboro College and in New York at the Kosciusko Foundation. In addition to their commitment to presenting the standard repertoire as well as the lesser-known works by the great composers, the Raphael Trio maintain an active role in commissioning, performing and recording works written for them by contemporary composers.

joe smithArtist Talk - Joe Smith

Joe Smith, sculpture professor at Mount Holyoke College, will show recent work using assemblages and installations of reconstructed found objects in the Drury Gallery, February 2-23. Smith's work has appeared in New York City’s First Street Gallery and the 55 Mercer Street Gallery, as well as the Saul Kofler Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island, and at Dartmouth College. The New York Times has characterized the sculptor's oeuvre as being "about relationships that seem at the same time provisional and inevitable ... quietly whimsical, seriously perverse."

The trails have been cleared and we're ready to ski and snowshoe! Join novice and veteran Nordic skiers for the annual Wendell-Judd Cup ski event. Check in at the Campus Center between 1:00 and 1:45 p.m. before heading out on the 5.5 m/8k course from the college to South Pond and back again. The trails are suitable for all levels, and snowshoers are also encouraged to participate. Youth, men's, women's, seniors' and pedestrian categories; mid-point start and shuttle available. Refreshments and awards will be waiting at the end. All are welcome to participate-the more the merrier! For more information, contact Randy Knaggs at 802-258-9253. Rain date: March 7.

peter eldridgeThe Peter Eldridge Trio

Vocalist-pianist Peter Eldridge ranks "in the celebrated tradition of melodic poets, most famously represented by such disparate voices as Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison and Steely Dan." (allmusicguide.com). He has recorded three solo albums and teaches jazz voice at the Manhattan School of Music. He is also a member of the double-Grammy winning New York Voices, a vocal group he co-founded with Darmon Meader, which has recorded seven studio albums, made numerous guest appearances, and toured internationally for more than a decade. Human Rights and La Otra Campaña in Mexico: Memory, Culture & Political Organizing - Edith López Ovalle

Edith López Ovalle is an artist and co-founder of the human rights organization, Hijos por la Identidad
y la Justicia contra el Olvido y el Silencio (HIJOS). She will be joined by a representative from the Mexico Solidarity Network to discuss the historical and present-day context of the imprisonment,
disappearance and assassination of political dissidents in Mexico, and the role of artistic and cultural interventions, as well as political organizing, in confronting human rights abuses.
